DAME

When you live in New York City, you’re constantly met with conversations that start with “Have you tried this new place?” and “I just had the best meal of my life.” And by constant I seriously mean, Every. Single. Day. So whenever we venture out to a restaurant that we’ve heard is the best of the best, I’m always on high alert. The night will go one of two ways. It’ll be the best. Or it’ll be a huge let down because there was so much fanfare before our visit. Our first night at Dame, luckily, was the former. It was AMAZING.

Dame originally started as a pop up in 2020, but quickly became the highly talked about new kid on the block, most notorious for their fish n chips.

Dame has settled into a permanent location, albeit its 450 sq feet with maybe 15 seats total. Their menu is focused on English seafood and genuinely gives the vibe of Pearl Oyster Bar’s cool younger brother. The drinks are strong. The food was honestly incredible; bonus point: the restaurant is so small that all while enjoying the food we also got to watch the chefs do their thang…. from frying the fish n chips to torching the oysters.

Dame opens reservations on Resy at noon - 3 weeks in advance… seriously, set those alarms.

Grilled Oysters with Hollandaise

Dame’s space is so small you can watch the kitchen from almost any seat. The grilled oysters are ordered by most tables and the chefs take a torch to the hollandaise. It is warmed, bruleed, and honestly just a big dollop of hollandaise in your mouth. Delicious!

Tuna Tartare with Bottarga on Toast

The tuna tartare was really fresh and the bottarga added a nice saltiness to the dish. My only complaint was the toast was hard to cut through but delightfully crunchy and crispy once eaten!

Tempura and Beer Battered Fish N Chips

Fish N Chips seems like an easy food to make, but it isn’t easy to get right. Dame’s Fish N Chips are crunchy, crispy, and somehow light(!?). You won’t feel like you’re walking away having just eaten a heeping amount of oily fried food. Oh, and the crisps are thick - yet crispy - potato wedges. Perfectly seasoned!
