COSME

Where do I even begin to tell you about Cosme? Well, I guess let’s start with the fact that it is one of the restaurants by my favorite chef, Enrique Olvera. I’m from SoCal and thus a die hard Mexican food junkie, and no, not like TexMex, or American mexican, real authentic dishes. Whether it’s street tacos under the bridge in my hometown, or our family friends’ abuelitas homemade mole, I’ve loved Mexican food since I was young.

I first heard of Olvera on Netflix’s Chef’s Table and immediately admired his forming of old and new. I’d eaten at Cosme before the show and remembered loving the Duck Carnitas because it was the most tender and flavorful duck I had ever eaten. Cut to almost a decade later and I’ve now eaten at many of Olvera’s restaurants from Atla to Pujol… and not to mention gotten engaged and celebrated my master’s all at Cosme. If I had to count how many Margaritas I’ve consumed at Cosme, I may be sick.

The Blistered Peppers Order:
Herb Guacamole
Octopus Tostada
Tataki al Pastor (also sometimes made with cobia)
Mole de la Casa
Duck Carnitas
Corn Husk Meringue

herb guacamole

This guacamole isn’t vastly different from what you already are used to, but its a great way to start the meal. Avos are super fresh and a perfect combo of smooth and chunky.

MOLE DE LA CASA, SWEET POTATO, HOJA SANTA

If you haven’t watched Chef’s Table, what are you waiting for? Olvera is known for his mole (served at Pujol) which has been known to reach up to a 1000+ day life span, this is a version of that. The flavors are so beyond layered, I’m not even going to try to describe it.

DUCK CARNITAS, ONIONS, RADISHES, CILANTRO

Some people say they don't like duck, well that is because they haven’t tried the right duck. Cosme’s duck isn’t gamey in texture or flavor, it is perfectly cooked and incredibly tender so much so that it reminds me of pulled pork.
