GUACAMOLE

 
 

4 INGREDIENTS. GUAC IS DONE AND BETTER THAN ANY YOU’VE TRIED BEFORE.

Ingredients:

3-4 ripe avocados
Juice of 2 limes
Salt
Pepper
Optional: chili powder or flake, cayenne, cumin, jalapeno (chopped), onion (chopped), cilantro (chopped)


The Blistered Peppers Take:

At a very young age, I learned that guacamole is really 4 simple ingredients and beyond that, we’re just playing around and doctoring it up based on moods or flavor profiles we serve it with. ALL guacamole should be made with lime juice. First of all, lime and lemon juice help preserve fruits and vegetables that easily brown - another hot tip: save an avocado pit to place back into the guac, it will help keep it fresh longer! And second, lime is used in SO many Mexican dishes and the tart, tanginess that it adds to guacamole is absolutely necessary in my opinion. 

Now, as I’ve stated before, BP is all about approachability. You should never run away from a BP recipe just because you’re missing an ingredient… unless of course you’re about to make guacamole and you’re missing avocados. Then, yea, maybe you should run! But aside from that, play with flavors that you like and have fun as you cook! When I’m a little bit more prepared, and I know I’m going to have a Taco Tuesday dinner party, I love adding a little jalapeno (for heat) and onion (for that crisp, tanginess). I not only love guacamole with my tacos, or as a snack, but also for breakfast - a side of guac with eggs, salsa, and tortilla chips; or using guac on top of a rice cake with a fried egg; or even with some kimchi!

Hot Tip: I like to use one avocado for every person. It sounds like a lot, but let’s be honest with one another: guacamole goes fast and more is more.

Steps:

  1. Make guac. 

    No. I’m serious. That’s the only step.

    Cut the avocados in half and remove the pit - check out the video below to see how I easily remove the pit using a knife. Then scoop out the avocado and place in a medium bowl. Add the lime juice, and start with 1 tablespoon salt, and 1/2 tablespoon of ground black pepper - you can add more salt and pepper to taste but this is a good starting point. Using a fork, mash the avocado against the bowl, cutting through the pieces well and ultimately as the avocado begins to soften, stir the mixture so it is well combined.

If you’re using any of the optional ingredients, add those into the guac, once the avocado, lime, salt and pepper are fully combined, then fold it all together.
