Blistered Peppers posted about One White Street back in October 2020, about two months after their opening. The review opened with the following: “an incredibly good restaurant that will likely blow up in the next few months, so go try it while you still can!” And since then, we’ve been hitting Resy notifications waiting to snag a table again.

One White Street describes themselves as “a neighborhood restaurant” in Tribeca, but this is truly a fine dining experience. The team is lead by Chef Austin Johnson and Master Sommelier Dustin Wilson. The restaurant is located in a historic townhouse and they have distinguished their various dining experiences based on location. “Upstairs” offers the six-course tasting menu, that highlights fresh ingredients from their farm in upstate New York - yea, they have their own farm, but we’ll get to that later. The a la carte menu is served “downstairs” and at the bar, alongside a killer cocktail and wine list.

Chef Johnson worked at Eleven Madison Park, under Chef Daniel Humm, and later at Noma - both of which are three Micheline star restaurants. While working in Paris, Johnson then earned his first Michelin star. Needless to say Johnson has some chops and his talent is truly on display at One White Street.

It is obvious that Johnson understands the importance of where and how ingredients are sourced. Before opening One White Street, he worked with farmers to create Rigor Hill Farm in Columbia County and this farm provides the restaurant with produce year-round. Yes, we’ve heard the story about farm to table before, but that doesn’t mean that the experience is dated or lacking. In fact it is quite the opposite. One White Street serves incredible food and you are given the opportunity to learn and experience what ingredients should taste like. In their most authentic form. To me, that is the essence of farm to table. Not to mention, One White Street changes their menu frequently so the below dishes probably aren’t still on the menu, even better because it gives us a reason to return time and time again.

SWEET POTATO VELOUTE WITH TOASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS AND CREME FRAICHE

This dish tastes like Fall in a bowl. It is super comforting, yet light, and packed with flavor.

concord grape pavlova with concord lychee sorbet

Not only is this dessert plated beautifully, but the flavor was also incredibly unique.

Rarely does one order grape anything, but this dessert was delightful. The pavlova was perfectly crisp and crunchy.
